Edinburgh Fringe Review: The Ladyboys of Bangkok - Party Queens
Festival Square, Lothian Road ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sparkling, seductive and saucy, The Ladyboys of Bangkok bring the biggest party in town back to Edinburgh this August in the aptly titled, Party Queens. And boy, do these Fringe stalwarts know how to get an audience on their feet.
Enter their big pink tent and for the next 90 minutes you’re guaranteed to forget your troubles and woes as The Ladyboys take you on a roller-coaster ride of laughter, music and mime.
Spectacular costumes, pumping beats and cheeky seaside routines, delivered with a friendly nod and a wink, all lift the spirit as does the obligatory singalong and exclusive Scottish finale.
Playing three shows a day during the Festival, The Ladyboys have become a firm favourite with local audiences - well, everyone needs a bit of old-fashioned glamour in their lives and this show positively sparkles. The costumes are breath-taking.
An interactive experience, volunteers are required - all male - for a number of comic set pieces that had those lucky enough to escape attention crying with laughter.
Performing to a soundtrack of pop songs old and new, the highlight of this year’s show reflects the title, it’s a tribute to the rock n roll legends Queen, and boasts dazzling costumes Freddie himself would not have looked out of place in.
It’s safe to say that The Ladyboys of Bangkok have honed the art of partying, so sit back, let the show begin and get ready for an hour and a half of feel-good fun and fantasy.
Until August 27, various times
