I’d be happier with a straight forward interpretation of the Bard. It is not as if we are exactly overflowing with Shakespeare productions. Nowadays theatregoers are forced to endure the directors concept. Usually via a ‘queer’ or colonial lens. The 2025 EIF programme is an ideal example of this. I hope theatre goers vote with their wallets and ignore this trash.
The EIF is in terminal decline, no doubt hastened by political posturing at Creative Scotland.
